You probably never knew how much you wanted a baby until the day you were faced with the possibility of not being able to have one.
After spending a majority of your 20’s trying not to get pregnant, it’s a surprise to most women when they have challenges trying to conceive in their 30’s.
So now you’re researching more thoroughly than you ever did in college, and, as usual, ‘Dr. Google’ is really freaking you out! So, I’m glad you are here, because I don’t allow fear mongering in my practice, and I want to urge you to consider another potential outcome: Many people respond very well to a few key changes in health, diet, and lifestyle, and don’t need to spend their life savings on fertility treatments, hormones, and heartbreaks.
LESS STRUGGLE: A SIMPLE APPROACH IS BETTER
I’ve helped a lot of couples conceive, and more often than not, I find that most people just need a little (calculated) boost from the right direction. Today, I’m sharing my 5 best fertility boosting health tips with you. These are a few of the ways I work with people in my practice, and the 5 things that consistently have the greatest impact on fertility success.
1. GET CLEAR ON YOUR DIET
Finding the best diet for you can be quite a pursuit, and you will probably need to refine your habits around what creates the best environment for conception + healthy gestation. Eating foods with higher nutrient content is one of the best ways to build blood and boost your energy, so you have plenty to spare when you’re eating for two.
Just say no to carb-y snacks, and indulge in more nutrient dense foods, such as leafy greens, nuts, seeds, homemade soup stock, and organic beef. In short, eat more ‘real food’ and cut out processed foods, convenience foods, and any food with additives or chemicals.
2. GET GROUNDED: PRACTICE YOGA AND/OR MEDITATE EVERY DAY
It’s important to refine your exercise routine every few years, and the harder your work and busier your schedule becomes, the more you need to incorporate ‘restorative’ exercise into the mix. This is also true of those trying to conceive. Going through a pregnancy and childbirth takes a tremendous amount of your energy and your resources, so now is the time to make sure you are getting enough exercise, but not over doing it.
In that same vein, learning to create a space for quiet contemplation should top the list of restorative habits on your list. Many of us are so busy these days, that we tend to go from 100 miles per hour, to falling asleep, with little to no differentiation in the middle. Setting aside a scheduled time every day to breathe and clear your mind of clutter, for even 15 minutes, will make a world of difference.
3. START GOING FOR REGULAR ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENTS
You won’t believe all of the things that are possible with Acupuncture. Not only is it amazing at increasing fertility, regulating your menstrual cycle, building your energy reserves and calming those frazzled nerves, finding a great Acupuncturist will make every step of your pregnancy and post-childbirth recovery a more smooth and enjoyable experience.
4. TAKE THE HERBS
The real magic in the world of Chinese medicine lies in the combination of taking a customized Chinese Herbal Formula along with your Acupuncture treatments. They are safe and gentle, yet mind-blowingly effective, especially in conjunction with Acupuncture. I have treated hundreds of cases of infertility, PCOS, and irregular menstrual cycles successfully, and hands down, have greater success when people take the herbs.
Using Chinese Herbs, in the hands of a skilled herbalist, can clear up conditions you have suffered with for years. They are also extremely effective at addressing the aftermath of using birth control pills for 10+ years, a common trend that I see at least 75% of the time with fertility challenges.
Occasionally, some women have fear associated with taking herbs for fertility or during pregnancy, and I want to clear up some enormous misconceptions. Beware of anyone who tells you things like ‘herbs are dangerous’, or worse. Blanket statements like this typically come out of fear, paranoia, and serious lack of knowledge, and it just isn’t true.
Self-prescribing or taking over the counter remedies recommended by a friend can be risky, indeed. But, finding a trained and licensed Chinese Herbalist will help you reach your goals faster and safer than anything else on the market. Plus, Remember that this is what we are trained to do, and you can leave the worrying to us.
5. REMEMBER WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY, AND DO MORE OF THAT!
Remember how much fun you used to have with your partner when you first started dating? Well it’s time to re-ignite that sense of joy, take some time to consider what things in life make you happy, and make a conscious effort to do more of them on a regular basis.
When experiencing this strange and powerful combination of your biological clock ticking louder and louder, mixed with people constantly asking you about having babies, and an outdated, yet powerful cultural expectation that women can only establish value through motherhood, it’s easy to become fixated on getting pregnant N..O..W! But if there ever was a time when you need less pressure in your life, it’s now.
One of the best ways to manage stress and pressure is by throwing caution to the wind and ‘un’ planning. Get off-schedule, take some down time, go for weekend trips, dance, hike, rent a boat, and most importantly, stop fixating on what you might think is wrong, and go have some fun. Seriously…the laundry can wait.
